I’m Olena Bugrimenko, a freelance designer. I specialize in bead crafting.
About five years ago it was a nice hobby for me. My first piece was a necklace for my Mom who stayed many miles away from me and for whom I made that shimmering beaded chain with love.
Then I started to made handmade jewelry and bead bouquets to birthdays for my friends. I repeatedly turned for inspiration to the flowers to create pieces, which extend traditional jewelry values. My friends appreciated necklaces, earrings and bracelets that were handmade from glass beads. I was asked for more designs such as handbags, accessories for informal attire and even for kids’ doll dresses. I realized that this craft makes excellent gifts.
However it was not until I have been recognized in a variety of contests and fairs including winning the prize from Michael’s Create A Sparkle Bead Contest that I started to take my art more seriously. At that time I set up my studio and online store. I collaborate with photograph Svitlana Rykova who is specializing in commercial photography.
It is difficult to say why I create art. Sometimes it is a need to see something in a new way, or a need to put down in tangible form a real beauty that I see in flowers.
I use all richness of colors. Monotone signifies pure image and focuses on precision of the pattern, black and white emphasize the femininity, light and dark create mood.
Inspiration comes from lace, ribbon or haute couture dresses. I like to explore combination of beads and glass with gems and pearls. I try to combine intricate design with different forms and shapes to add to the originality to each piece.
All of pieces are one-of-a-kind and very rare. Each product has a story and becomes a conversation piece when adorns a home or adds finishing touches to a wedding dress.
Craft making is a constant learning process, and sometimes I cannot tell if it is the technical work that I am learning or my inner self.
Once on a local school fair, where my collection had a big success, I got the idea that bead crafting is a great activity for children who are allowed to work with smaller objects. That’s how I found my perfect project idea – provide craftsmen with art kits for bead crafting. Craft sets can provide you with inspiration, but bringing it to life is the fun part.
